Gonjah Chalet, Campsite and 4x4 route are situated 9km NW of Patensie;  89km NW of Port Elizabeth;  55km NW of Jeffrey's Bay and 35km from Baviaanskloof Wilderness area.

The fully equipped chalet is situated in a tranquil kloof among indigenous forest.  The chalet has two bedrooms with one double and two single beds and three sleeping couches in the lounge area.  There is one bathroom with a basin, toilet and shower.  No electricity but gas facilities. The lounge has a fireplace and open wooden deck with braai facilities.

The word Gonjah is the indigenous word for "blaasopsprinkaan", a grasshopper from the family Pneumoridae. This bright green insect has a loud croak like a frog with which the male calls the females at night.

The 4x4 route

The campsite is next to a mountain stream.  Big yellowwood trees surround the area.  Basic facilities - hot shower and flush toilet.  Braaiwood available.

The 4x4 route.  There are two routes.  The 12 km long route is completed in three hours' time and the 20 km route takes five hours. Both routes go through a variety of veld types from aloes to fynbos in the mountains and indigenous forest in the kloofs.

There is also a good chance of spotting nyala, bushbuck, duiker, rooibok and birds, such as the Knysna loerie, hawks and eagles. The route climbs to 570m at its highest point and there is a view site that offers a sweeping vista of the valley.

At the other end of the trail visitors get a view of the Cockscomb mountain.
