In 1887 the Komdomo area was awarded to four farmers, J.D. Du Preez, J.F. Zietsman, J.M. Zietsman and J.D. Du Preez (jnr.) and was farmed successfully until it was bought for conservation purposes. Komdomo is the Hottentot word for " where the rivers meet" . It is about 5km on the Patensie-Willowmore gravel raod that was constructed under the supervision of Thomas Baines between 1880 and 1890.

Komdomo is situated at the entrance of the Grootrivier Poort and forms the eastern gateway to the conservation area.

It is the only terrain accessible to caravan camping.  The terrain exists on a flat, narrow, kilometre long stretch of land on the eastern bank of the Grootrivier with provision for 17 caravan/tent sites. Existing infrastructure includes the keeper's house, office, ablution block and access routes.

Recreation activities include: angling, mountain biking, rock climbing, canoeing, short hiking trips, bird watching and swimming.

The Kouga Dam offers additional picnic spots and accommodation, 9km away.   Large groups can be accommodated on the site.

It is important that visitors adhere to the regulations applied to refuse disposal.

Warning: No caravans beyond this point.
